Frustrated!

I moved some things, changed some colors and am now totally frustrated. The only thing I can figure out is the blogspot people must have changed something....All of you who can post, can change anything! Please help yourself...my brain is fried!

Blog site "issues"

I am not sure what has happened to our blog site. For some reason the sidebar entries are hidden. The description of "Who we are", our map of visitors, our names are all hiding! I have tried to figure it all out. I did manage to change the color and the style...which I have to say I like at this point. I am going to keep trying to figure out our problem. Until then, enjoy what is left.....

More than just a puppy....

...a very dear friend made that statement not too long ago. She was so right. When I got this little girl 8 years ago, I had no idea where she would take me. The journey has been for the most part joyful and without doubt fulfilling. I have met some of my dearest friends because of her. She and I have traveled and played and competed, her grief was the momentum for me to travel to Portland 3 years ago looking for a 4 legged companion for her. We had lost her buddy and she was truely grieving. We agreed to take a show puppy and the door was opened. The conformation ring is not for the meek, but as Kona and I moved into that forum, we were welcomed by some terrific people and met others along the way and I am so, so thankful for all that they have given to me. This weekend I was back at the Rose City shows with all three of my cairns. No one was entered (human error), but we all went anyway. Some wonderful things happened, some not so wonderful things (typical dog show). As I drove home I realized how truely happy I am to have the people around me that I do. Thanks to all of you (all 5, yes Rachel 5) plus several more. Most of all, thanks to Greg for putting up with all of this....and being the brains behind my creativity!

TAO Results, Jan 17, 2008

A fairly good day for the group at the Terrier Association of Oregon specialty on Thursday. Highlights are as follows-
Mary- Finished her CD (an obedience title) with a score of 186 and second place in the Novice B class.
Marty- Best Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes, and Reserve Winners Dog in the regular classes.
Elle- Winners Bitch for a four-point major (her THIRD major!)
Chase placed second in his class of five.
Hunter was third in his class of five and is so close to finishing that we can all taste it.
Alex was second in her class and is so darn cute she should be starting her winning streak any day now.
Happy (aka Toto) competed in Rally Novice, but we believe he missed having the munchkins around because it just wasn't his day.
The CrofterKids weren't entered but Kona did some really spactacular posing for pictures with the Versatility Trophey and his "few" earthdog ribbons.
And finally, Rain came and was only mistaken for a Cairn Terrier one time, so he must really be growing up.

Good weekend in Puyallup!

We were two of the recepients of the CCTC Versatility Award on Saturday. The third was Missi Hanson. Tucker, Oliver and Kona qualified for the award.
Today Kona earned his first leg in Rally; Advanced A, he scored an 80!
Chase won Winners Dog and Best of Winners (2 points toward his Championship). Elle won Reserve Winners Bitch.
Betsy was with us, didn't get to compete with Happy though. He was too worried about his mom to listen to what she wanted him to do in rally! (I personally think he couldn't read her brain waves cuz they were too messed up with her "medications"!)

Betsy's been released but Sparky...........well

he is still in the impound lot and won't go in for evaluation until Monday. You may ask why and what? Well, Betsy was on her way to my house early this morning and her light turned green and she hesitated - looked right then left and then proceeded. Who would have thought a @$&^* woman would be speeding straight for her. She ran the red light and "clipped" Sparky in the front, spinning Betsy and yes, "Happy" around. Luckily "Happy" was in his seat belt as was Betsy.
I get a phone call at 0733 telling me she was going to be a bit late and that she had been in a bad accident. I asked where she was and she said, "Powell and um.....Burgerville. Luckily I knew where she was and had the dogs loaded and the others put away so I grabbed my phone and keys and drove to her. I had beaten the fire department there but then 911 hadn't been called until a few minutes after Betsy had talked to me. I scooped up "Happy" and he was his happy little self wondering where the munchkins were. The 'house' had landed hard and the wicked witch (although not dead) was being cut out of her 'broomstick.'
The cops, the fire department and ambulance guys were awesome. They got Betsy out of the car and onto a backboard. The cops all looked at me funny as I was running back and forth with stuff from Sparky. (I knew he was dead and had to be bled.) Finally one asked if I was a first responder and I said no, Animal Control. I have worked with all them on numerous occasions. Betsy was then loaded in the ambulance and I was able to go in behind and follow to the hospital. Sparky was hauled to the yard a few blocks away.
Luckily after a couple of x-rays she was discharged with instructions and prescription for drugs.
We stopped off at her house to dump Sparky's contents and back to my side of the world. Prescription filled, ice packs, stop at the house to potty dogs and pick a few last minute things and off we were.
We missed the show but was able to get unloaded, groom a few dogs and enjoy a award dinner for CCTC.
I think Betsy did this subconciencely when she found out we were not getting a motel room and she was going to have to sleep on Speed Racer's kitchen table.
As I type, the Flexeral is taking effect as is the Vicodon and she is snug as a bug on a flyswatter in her motel bed.
Below are pictures of Sparky. We are all sad to see him go.

It's done.

I had some babies. I worked really hard, back and forth to the vet all those times, shuffled from one home to another, back to the vet for an ultrasound, dealing with the disappointment of both mothers that I had only two (we're not ALL like Rona!), back for an xray, then got to the Whelping Mother's house just in time to have two adorable babies the next morning.

They're cute, they both have fat little heads, tiny ears, STRAIGHT tails, and nice round tummies. People keep shoving me aside to take pictures. And yet, and yet.... no pictures have been posted here for my fan club to admire. As soon as I figure out that usb-card-thingy on the camera, I'm taking my own pictures and they'll be up here for all to see. Until then, just take my word for it- these babies are CUTE.

Ready for the show season....

...or is it snow season!

The dogs are excited. Kona is entered in rally Advanced A this weekend.

They know the motor home is here and they love to go to shows and hang out together. They are following me around like tails on a dog.

Kona is working really well, so I have high hopes for Q's.

How do you know when you are crazy?

"They" say that if you think you are crazy you aren't, since people with mental illness never think there is anything wrong with them. That is oddly reassuring to me this morning as I contemplate my latest goof.
I will be at the Rose City Classic in Portland next weekend...January 17-21. Grooming space reserved, dog bait/treats all made, weighed and frozen. The missing item would be my entries! Somehow as I labored over what to enter online...BOB and Rally? Just Rally...Adv A or the next level....fillling out the grooming space request, talking to Dena and Vicki about the parking arrangements (you get the picture...we have all done it a dozen times). At any rate, I failed to note that I hadn't gotten a confirmation from Onofrio regarding my entries!
Now, I am not perfect, I know that...I accept it, I honor it, it is who I am. Rose City and I have had entry challenges before...well, not Rose City, but the Terrier Specialty and puppy sweeps. Thank goodness I have no puppy this year. Thank goodness I wasn't thinking I would rock TV land on Saturday....CUZ KONA WON'T BE THERE!
I firmly believe things happen for a reason...either cause or effect. I will get back to you when I figure out which this is!

My van shelf!

I did it! When we were in Pennsylvania last fall, I saw a shelf in a Honda mini van. I was so excited. I am sorry to say that I don't remember who owned the van, so that I could give credit. Greg doesn't understand why on earth I wanted a shelf. It is for organization!

In the picture on the top, you see the three crates in a view from the side door opening. The dogs enter the passenger sliding door. (The fur over the top is to cover the insulated tarp that I have wrapped around the back and side of the crates.) The picture on the bottom is from the top. I used 1x2 pieces of fir, measuring and cutting each seperately so that the curve of the window ledge is accounted for. They are very snug, they don't rattle or shift at all. I set the piece on each end at an angle so that things I set on the shelf have a bit of a lip to help keep things where I have put them.

A Little Birdy

A little birdy recently whispered to me that one of our members is taking the plunge. A little black stage star is going into the agility ring. Way to go Happy and Betsy. Have fun in Portland on the 19th of January at the Rose City Classic! Remember, just have fun....speak to me privately if you need the special Vicki Havlik remedy for nerves.

Cairn Rassling

It is the oldest of performance events in the dog world. My dogs LOVE to "rassle" in the living room. There is something about the carpet in that room that causes them all to get goofy. Kona races around all of the pieces of furniture with Kula growling at Hattie and him as they all chase around the room. It is one of my favorite things my dogs do.
